2008 Orvis Endorsed Beginner
Fly-fishing Schools
We are an Orvis Endorsed Fly-fishing
School where you can spend a full day learning the art of
fly-fishing under the guidance of experienced instructors. One
day fishing clinics are broken into a comfortable mix of
personalized casting instruction, classroom tackle and strategy
lecture sessions.
The following subject matter will be
covered:
Fly Casting: Fly casting dynamics
including roll casting
Fly Fishing Knots: Nail knot, blood
knot, surgeons, improved clinch, Albright knot, perfection loop,
leader construction and theory.
Tackle: It's history, selection and
use - rods, reels, fly lines, leaders, waders and
accessories.
Entomology and Fly Selection: Basic
insect identification and behavior, understanding rise forms.
Fly selection and use including dry flies, wets, nymphs and streamer
fishing.
Fly Fishing Strategies: Reading and
understanding trout and smallmouth bass holding patterns,
stalking and approach. Proven techniques and tactics for
stream trout and smallmouth bass.
We will also discuss safety,
conservation, and etiquette issues that are a part of fly
fishing.
All equipment is provided, we feel that
it is important that you get the correct rod for your angling
situation. You will get the opportunity to cast different
models and lengths of rods, which will make your eventual decision
much easier.

2008 Smallmouth
Bass, Shad &
Trout Schools
Experience the thrill and excitement of
learning how to effectively fly-fish for Smallmouth Bass,
Shad or Trout. We will provide on-the-water
instruction covering the following areas:
- Selecting and setting up the
appropriate fly-rod outfit for the fish that you're
targeting.
- Knot-tying
- Flies and fly selection
- Stream and wading tactics
- Fly-fishing Strategies
- Casting
- Playing and landing fish
- After classroom phase spend two to
three hours catching fish under skilled guidance.
- All Equipment is provided along with
snacks and beverages.
Group size is limited to 6 per
class.

2008 Inshore Saltwater
School
We will be offering a two day
fly-fishing school covering the basics of inshore saltwater
fly-fishing. The school will be held in the Outer Banks of
North Carolina and will cover the following areas:
- Selecting and setting up the
appropriate fly-rod outfit for the fish that you're
targeting.
- Knot-tying
- Flies and fly selection
- Wading tactics
- Casting
- Fly Fishing Strategies
- Playing and landing fish
- After classroom phase spend one full
day catching fish at various "fishing hotspots" along
the Outer Banks under skilled guidance.
- All Equipment is provided along with
snacks and beverage.
Group size is limited to 8 per
class.
